Rubbish and Recycling Collections: What’s been happening?

Earlier this year there was an issue with emptying the rubbish and recycling pods that are installed in pavements across Myatts Field North. We explain what the issue was below, what was done about it, and how you can help keep the estate looking it’s best.

In short, the bin pods were all full, meaning bags of rubbish got left next to them, many of which were torn apart by foxes overnight (they’re scavengers by nature) and the early morning scene was one of rubbish strewn over the streets and pavements. Much of this was picked up by our Bulky Waste Collection team, who aren’t supposed to be collecting refuse full stop, let alone at this scale and don’t really have the equipment or capacity to do so. Despite this, they worked their socks off to keep the issue at bay, for which we are all very grateful.

This all happened because the two vehicles operated by Serco, the Council contractor responsible for emptying the bin pods, weren’t working. In a joint effort between Pinnacle, Regenter and the Residents’ Panel, we applied pressure to get a resolution to the issue and contingency plans in place until the vehicles were repaired, which has now happened. Rest assured we will remain vigilant and continue to work with Lambeth Council to ensure sufficient collections are taking place, the bin pods are working properly, and where rubbish has been dumped on the street and there are no reasonable explanations for doing so, enforcement action is taken.

To recap, the refuse pods are emptied on Wednesdays, recycling on Fridays. We know that sometimes pods are full, in which case, please use an adjacent pod. If you find that one of the pods isn’t working properly, please report to the community centre on 0203 771 0151 or MFNCustomerService@pinnaclegroup.co.uk.
