Smashing Pumpkins

On a dark dark night, down a dark dark Crawshay Road, our bright and cosy community centre café was buzzing with autumnal excitement as twenty residents gathered for a Halloween pumpkin carving event that blended creativity, neighbourliness, and E-numbers.

Obliging hosts, Ghoulish Gill and Petrifying Portia, transformed the corner café into a cozy Halloween haven, with tables covered with on-brand orange tablecloths, carving kits at the ready, and bowls overflowing with sweets. Attendees of all ages rolled up their sleeves and got to work, turning slimy pumpkins into grinning ghouls, spooky faces, and even a few artistic masterpieces. I’m looking at you, Kiki.

DJ Gill’s Halloween Bangers echoed through the centre as participants swapped carving tips, and your Community Manager apologised for the mess and picked up the occasional pumpkin seed. Whether it was the sheer joy of hitting a pumpkin with a small plastic mallet or the joy of meeting neighbours over fistfuls of Haribo, the event was an absolute ripsnorter.

As the sun set and fake plastic candles slid into place, Myatt’s community spirit was on full display. Same time next year!
